EMPLOYER LONG TERM

  • In order to register with the Agency you must complete our on-line Questionnaire for the type of care/service required, either CHILDCAREELDERCARE or HOUSEKEEPING .
  • We will forward confirmation that your Questionnaire has been received by e-mail and contact you directly if we have any questions and to discuss possible options, after reviewing your information. Once your Questionnaire has been assessed, you will receive a brief summary of possible candidates who may be a suitable match for your needs.
  • Payment of the Initial Search/Registration Fee of $113.00,  must be received in our office by e-transfer, cheque or cash, prior to full File Summaries of potential candidates being forwarded to you for consideration.
    ExceptionNo Initial Search Fee is payable in advance for Part Time Positions of 20 hours per week or less. If we are able to find suitable candidates for interview, the ISF will be payable upon placement OR prior to arrangement of an interview for a third possible candidate, whichever comes first.
  •  Obtain an Employer Business Number (BN) at www.cra-arc.gc.ca, if you don’t already have one.
  • IF you are looking to hire a Caregiver under the new Foreign Worker “CAREGIVER”  program, your job must be posted on the National Job Bank at www.jobbank.gc.ca for a minimum 4 weeks. Additional advertising in at least 3 other places is also now required as well as records of those responding to the ads/postings and why they are not suitable. The Agency is happy to post jobs for our employer clients with additional advertising & required reports if it hasn’t already been completed, but $500.00 of the Deposit Fee must be paid in advance for us to do so. Trafalgar Personnel Limited does NOT act as a “Third Party Representative” for any of our Employer Clients. However, our Paralegal on-staff is available to provide this service, if needed, for an additional fee.
  • Personal interviews with local applicants will be arranged and/or contact information for overseas applicants you are interested in interviewing, will be forwarded to you. File Summaries all include the application form, reference letters and Reference Check Reports obtained directly between the Agency and previous/current employers, as well as other documentation. Employer clients are welcome to contact previous/current employers if they are genuinely interested in possibly hiring them, prior to making a final decision.
  • Once you have selected a candidate, we will draw up an Offer of Employment/Agreement and forward it to you for correction. After the necessary changes are made, we will contact the nanny/caregiver/housekeeper to receive verbal acceptance prior to you coming into the office to sign the paperwork, pay the deposit fee and complete any other required paperwork. IF you are hiring a  Caregiver on the federal CAREGIVER  PROGRAM, additional documents are also required – LMIA application, 7 Page Contract , Schedule G form and the Bedroom Description forms.
  • Your nanny/child care provider/care attendant/companion caregiver/housekeeper will sign 3 copies of the Offer/Agreement after the Employer has signed and you will each keep a copy with the 3rd copy remaining on file in the office.

We guarantee that all offers of employment are discussed thoroughly with each employer and are checked to ensure they meet provincial employment standards legislation and the federal guidelines for those on a Work Permit.

Trafalgar Personnel Limited takes great pride in the excellent quality and thorough screening of all our applicants on file. Reference Check reports, obtained directly between the Agency and the applicants current/previous employers, are on each file summary for potential employers to view along with the letters of reference, interview notes and completed application forms. ‘Dear Family’ letters or a CV, as well as photos are also forwarded on Foreign Worker applicant files. You are welcome to contact previous employers directly, should you wish to do so. Other documentation such as school transcripts/diploma/degree, driver’s licence, First Aid Certification etc. remain on applicant files in our office.

We expect both employers and their caregivers to treat each other fairly, with respect, and to maintain open communication lines so that they can work together in finding solutions to any problems that may arise. We are here to provide guidance and support, whenever needed, throughout the entire placement.

PLAN AHEAD if you intend to hire a Caregiver on the federal Caregiver work visa program! Processing of these applications usually takes 2 to 6 months AFTER the LMIA is received, depending on where the work permit is being processed. The process is exactly the same for local applicants who are working in Canada on the Caregiver work visa program and changing Employers. Their applications are processed through the national Case Processing Center in Vegreville, Alberta.

A 50% DEPOSIT PLACEMENT FEE (non-refundable) is payable IF you choose one of our candidates and make them a formal Job Offer which they accept either by phone or or e-mail. The Deposit payment is due when the Job Offer is signed by the Employer. For overseas applicants, deposit payment must be received prior to the offer being mailed overseas. Any fee paid in advance for the Agency to posting your job and/or assist with advertising and maintaing records of respondents, will be deducted from the Deposit Fee owing.

50% BALANCE PAYMENT is due 7 days after the written acceptance of the Job Offer is received, signed and dated, from the overseas applicant or for local placements, by postdated cheque made payable for the last full working day prior to commencement of employment, whether part time, full time or casual.

We Offer a 9 Month Guarantee on our Full Service Contract.

(Free replacement if employment is terminated within the first 12 weeks, with a prorated guarantee from 13th week to end of 9th month)

Live-In & Out Wages for those on a work permit :

Caregivers on the federal CAREGIVER PROGRAM  –  Employers must refer to the median wage published on Job Bank to determine the prevailing wage. Go to: Wages (Right side in green print). The hourly wage varies depending on the type of care you need and the region of the province you live in.

ESDC Central Processing Center in Downsview, Ontario, processes all Employer applications

Others: CPP, EI & Income Tax deductions must be submitted to CRA monthly (or Quarterly with CRA permission) by the Employer along with the Employer’s share of CPP & EI. In Ontario. IF a Caregiver agrees to work on a Live-In basis, NO Room and Board can be deducted. It is deemed a free benefit under the new program regulations.

Live-In:

Those willing to work on a Live-In basis are usually looking for $2 – $3 / hour more than median wage published on Job Bank

Live-Out Wage:

Nanny / Child Care Provider / Sitter : $15 – $20 / hour .
Companion Care / Eldercare / Care Attendant : $15 – 20 / hour
Nanny/Housekeeper  / Cook / Housekeeper :$16 – $22 / hr.

House Manager: Annual or Monthly Salary – by mutual agreement between the Employer & Employee.

Student Summer Sitter Placements (Students) and occasional Companion visitation jobs are $13 to $16./ hour.

Live-Out Au Pair/Cultural Exchgange Placements (on Open Work Permit): $14 – $16/hr. PLUS transit pass.

Live–Out Wages depend on start/finish time, total number of hours required, training and recent experience, job description, total Gross Wage per day and per week, and travel time, etc. The caregivers themselves will decide on what rate they are looking for once they understand the job description.

Normally wages for live-out care for 40 hours/week or more are offered on a “Salary” basis, as opposed to an hourly basis, for up to the normal number of hours required per week, with a set rate for any additional overtime required. This eliminates paying time and a half for any overtime hours over 44 hrs./week, as per Ontario Employment Standards legislation.
